Ladakh bike trips

Ladakh bike trips run from late May to September, when Baralacha La and Tanglang La on the Manali road and Zoji La on the Srinagar road are clear. A standard circuit is eleven to fourteen days from Manali, with a backup vehicle carrying luggage, fuel and spares.

Why a backup vehicle changes the trip

Fuel gaps on the Manali–Leh road run to hundreds of kilometres, spares are unavailable outside Leh, and altitude affects riders unpredictably. A support vehicle means a rider who is struggling can sit out a day instead of ending the trip.

Acclimatisation on a bike

Riding is physically harder than sitting in a car at the same altitude. The Manali route gains height fast, so a rest day at Leh before Khardung La and Pangong is not padding — it is what keeps the group intact.

Questions people ask

When can you ride to Ladakh?

Roughly late May to September, once the passes are cleared. Outside that window the roads are closed and the region is air-access only.

Do you need a permit to ride in Ladakh?

Yes, inner line permits are required for Nubra, Pangong and several other areas. They are arranged in Leh and are checked at multiple points.
